What do books mean to you?

An age-old question

It feels like an age-old question, doesn't it: what do books mean to you? Perhaps they were a lifeline to you when you were a child as you tried desperately to make sense of the world around you. Perhaps they were a safe-haven, a place you could escape to when you needed it most.

Perhaps they are none of these things to you. Maybe you yearn for adventure in your life; to discover strange new worlds and creatures; to learn ancient magic and secrets; to become someone other than yourself, if only for a short while.

Bookish wonder

Books have brought much joy and wonder into our lives, offering us stories to entertain and inspire us; to help us make sense of our extraordinary world and all of the miraculous creations within it.

Types of books

Some books delve into the mysteries of the human mind, exploring the way we perceive others and how these views shape our behaviour. Some take us on fantastical journeys that we could never imagine in our wildest dreams, while others thrust us into the jaws of danger so that we may feel truly alive.

Back to the question

The question remains: what do books mean to you? Do they help to invigorate you, give you a safe space to reflect on your life and the world? Do you read for entertainment, to gain knowledge, or for some other reason?

We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
